DotOne vs ERPNext: two different approaches
ERPNext is an open source ERP built by Frappe on its own Frappe framework. It covers accounting, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, HR and more, and has an active global community and a network of implementation partners. Many Indian businesses use it successfully, either self-hosted or on a managed cloud.
DotOne takes a different approach. It is built specifically for Indian MSMEs and manufacturers, with ready templates for sectors such as plywood, adhesive tape, footwear and laminates. The useful question is not which product is better in general, but which approach fits your team, your industry and the internal capability you have to configure and maintain a system.
Where ERPNext is a strong fit
- You value open source: the code is available, and you can self-host and control your own data and stack.
- You have, or can hire, technical people comfortable with the Frappe framework for configuration and custom apps.
- Your processes are close to standard ERP flows and you are happy to adapt to them.
- You want a broad, general-purpose suite across many business types.
- You prefer to choose freely among implementation partners or run the system in-house.
- You are comparing ERPNext vs Tally and want to move beyond accounting into a full ERP with community support.
These are genuine strengths. For a team with technical depth and standard processes, ERPNext can be an excellent choice.
When an industry-specific ERP like DotOne fits better
The balance shifts when your industry has specific production logic and you would rather start from a template than build it.
- Your manufacturing has industry-specific stages, units and conversions, such as sheets, rolls, pairs or square feet, that you want pre-configured.
- You do not want to maintain an in-house technical team for customisation and upgrades.
- You want one vendor accountable for software, implementation and support.
- You need production, quality and dispatch flows matched to your sector, covered in our manufacturing ERP pages.
- You want AI agents that highlight exceptions, such as delayed orders or low stock, without building them yourself.
- You prefer to keep accounts in Tally while running operations in the ERP.
Side-by-side: how they differ in practice

ERPNext is open source and can be self-hosted. DotOne is a commercial ERP delivered and supported by our team.
Industry fit
ERPNext is a general-purpose ERP configured per business. DotOne starts from industry templates for specific manufacturing sectors.
Customisation
ERPNext is extended through the Frappe framework, which gives great flexibility to developers. DotOne customisation is handled by our team through custom ERP development.
Implementation
ERPNext is implemented in-house or by a partner of your choice. DotOne is implemented directly by the vendor with sector-specific playbooks.
Support model
ERPNext offers community forums plus paid support options. DotOne provides direct support from the team that built the product.
Questions to ask before choosing
- Do we have the technical skills to configure, extend and upgrade an open source ERP, or will we rely on a partner?
- How much of our production process is standard, and how much is specific to our industry?
- Who will be accountable when a workflow breaks after an upgrade?
- Can the vendor demonstrate our own process, with our own units and stages, in a scripted demo?
- What is the total cost over three to five years, including hosting, partner fees and internal effort?
- Will accounts move into the ERP or stay in Tally?
Our guide to choosing ERP software covers scripted demos and evaluation criteria in more detail.
Migrating from ERPNext to DotOne
If you already run ERPNext and are considering a change, the move is usually straightforward because both systems hold structured master and transaction data. Item masters, customers, suppliers, BOMs and opening balances can be exported and mapped.
We recommend migrating masters and open documents first, running both systems in parallel for a short period, and switching over at a month or quarter end. Our ERP implementation services page explains the full approach.
Where DotOne fits
DotOne is built for Indian manufacturers who want an ERP that already understands their industry, delivered and supported by one team. It covers CRM, sales, purchase, inventory, manufacturing, quality, HR and finance, with optional Tally integration.
If ERPNext suits your team and processes, it is a sound choice. If you would rather start from an industry template and avoid maintaining your own technical stack, DotOne is worth evaluating alongside it.
