Dynamics 365 and the alternatives
Microsoft Dynamics 365 is Microsoft’s family of business applications. For small and mid-sized businesses the ERP is Dynamics 365 Business Central, the successor to Dynamics NAV (Navision); larger enterprises use Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management. They are sold, implemented and supported through Microsoft partners.
Its strengths are a familiar Microsoft experience and close links with Microsoft 365, Teams, Excel and Power BI. Businesses look for alternatives when they want a system that starts closer to their industry, or a vendor that implements and supports the product itself.
Where Dynamics 365 is a good fit
- Your company already runs on Microsoft 365 and Teams and wants an ERP in the same ecosystem.
- Finance and management rely heavily on Excel and Power BI for analysis.
- You operate in several countries and want a widely used international ERP.
- You have found a strong partner with experience in your industry and its add-ons.
- You are moving from Dynamics NAV and want to stay with Microsoft.
In these situations Business Central deserves a serious place on the shortlist.
When an industry-specific ERP like DotOne fits better
- Your production follows sector-specific stages and units that you want pre-configured rather than built through add-ons or extensions.
- You prefer the product vendor itself to implement and support the system.
- You are an Indian MSME focused on domestic operations, GST and Tally integration.
- You need job work, process-wise scrap and batch traceability set up for your sector.
- Shop floor, stores and field sales need a simple mobile app.
- You want AI agents that surface shortages, delays and overdue payments without extra development.

How they differ in practice
Delivery model
Dynamics 365 is delivered through Microsoft partners, so experience depends strongly on the partner. DotOne is delivered directly by the vendor.
Industry fit
Business Central is a general SME ERP often extended with partner apps. DotOne starts from Indian industry templates.
Ecosystem
Dynamics 365 is tightly linked to Microsoft 365 and Power BI. DotOne focuses on Indian manufacturers and exports data to Excel and BI tools.
Accounting
Both run accounting inside the ERP. DotOne also commonly integrates with Tally.
Questions to ask before choosing
- Who exactly will implement and support us, and what is their experience in our industry?
- Which of our requirements are standard, which need partner apps and which need custom extensions?
- Can we see our own process demonstrated with our own data?
- What is the total cost over five years, including licences, partner services, apps and support?
- How are upgrades handled for extensions and partner apps?
Our ERP pricing guide lists the cost components to compare across vendors.
Migrating from Dynamics to DotOne
Masters such as items, customers, vendors, BOMs and chart of accounts, along with open orders and opening balances, can be exported from Business Central or NAV and mapped into DotOne. Historical data can be retained in reports or an archive.
We plan a cut-off date, a short parallel run and training by department. Our implementation services page explains the approach.
Where DotOne fits
DotOne is built for Indian SMEs and manufacturers who want an ERP that already understands their industry, implemented and supported by the team that builds it. It covers CRM, sales, purchase, inventory, manufacturing, quality, HR and finance.
If Dynamics 365 and a good partner suit your needs, it is a strong choice. If you want an industry-first, vendor-led approach for Indian operations, evaluate DotOne alongside it.
